Life and the responsibility to preserve it have always been a motor for the visions that drive sigma-tau. Thanks to the enthusiasm for research and innovations, in conjunction with ethical and social behaviour, sigma-tau has become one of the leaders for pharmaceutical research within Italy.

sigma-tau was founded by Emilio und Claudio Cavazza in Rome in 1957. The company is one of a few within Europe (with an annual turnover of more than 700 million Euros) that, since its establishment, has been family-owned and thus preserved its private and independent status. At present, sigma-tau has approximately 2,500 employees worldwide, 400 of which are dedicated to research and development.

The activities of sigma-tau include research and development, procurement of raw materials,  production of pharmaceutical active substances and therapies as well as marketing and distribution of pharmaceutical products. sigma-tau has branches in Germany, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Great Britain, USA, India, and in Sudan for the African market. sigma-tau products are sold worldwide in 96 countries.
